Shopping

Venice is not just the ideal destination for culture-vultures and art-lovers, it is also a shopper's paradise!

Shopping in Venice suits all pockets and tastes: wandering through the calli and campi of the city you’ll find all types of shop: from tiny souvenir shops to craft workshops and boutiques with both Italian and international designer clothing (the latter are concentrated in the St Mark’s Square district).

Walking through Venice it is impossible to resist the lure of Venetian workshops where skilled craftsmen make the famous papier-maché masks and Carnival costumes; you'll find yourself lingering in one of the many Murano glass stores, admiring glass beads, necklaces and vases in a dizzying variety of shapes and bright colours.

Finally, if you’re hooked on boutiques and designer clothing make sure you take a walk down one of Venice's most chic shopping streets: the Calle Larga XXII Marzo and Mercerie in the Rialto district.

Many curious legends exist explaining how Venetian lace-making came into being but we do know that the lace-making technique, widely present in Burano from the 16th century onwards, has extremely ancient origins and traditions.
