Today the Venice Biennale is one of the most prestigious cultural events in the world, attracting a vast mixed public every year and organising shows and happenings with international appeal.
The first
International Art Exhibition was held in 1895, followed in 1932 by the Mostra del Cinema, Italy's first film festival.
One of the
most glamorous dates in a Venetian September packed with must-do events, the Venice film festival
attracts some of the world’s top celebrities.
The next international modern art exhibition is due to be held in 2009 and
will showcase cutting-edge art from all over the world in the historical Giardini
venue and in the new exhibition
spaces in the Arsenale.
The 65th Venice Film Festival will be directed by Marco Müller and will be held in the Lido in the historic Palazzo del Cinema, from 27 August to 6th September 2008.
In 1980 it was joined by the Music, Theatre and Architecture festival, and in 1999 dance joined the ranks of the various disciplines.
The 11th International Architecture Biennale is titled Out There. Architecture Beyond Building will be open to the public from 14 September to 23 November 2008.
The Dance Biennale will be held from 14 to 29 June 2008 with the 6th International Festival of Contemporary Dance, Beauty. Art is beautiful! will be directed by Ismael Ivo for the fourth time.
